Everyone wants something for free.  I’ve taken dozens of freebies and free gimmicks over the years and seldom have they been worth keeping.  When I do purchase, I’m a middle of the road guy – I’m not going to buy the most expensive and I’m not going to buy the least expensive.

I’ve learned to avoid the cheap stuff because in most cases, you get what you pay for.  BUT I was deceived at first when it came to internet movie downloads.  I went for the free ones – major mistake!

If you search for “free movie downloads” you’ll get a lot of sites called “torrents”.  The term “torrent” represents an amazing file sharing technology that is too complicated to explain in this article.  It’s a totally legitimate and beneficial technology.  HOWEVER, many have used torrents to create download pages that violate filmmaker copyrights on their work.

Just so you know, whenever you download a copyrighted movie without paying for it, it is technically against the law.  There are some supposed exceptions that some will try to offer like, “if you previously bought the movie already and you download it for free then it isn’t illegal,” but what’s the point in downloading a movie you already own?  More than likely you won’t get arrested and prosecuted for downloading from a peer-to-peer file sharing site but there are A LOT OF other disadvantages to downloading movies like this.

Perhaps the greatest issue is that they’re SLOW. No matter how quick your connection is, with P2P networks you’re always depending on someone else’s connection speed too.  Combine that with dozens of others trying to download the same file at the same time and you’ve got a few hours to kill!  Likewise, it’s common to wait and wait and wait for a movie to download only for it to hit 80% and drop the connection.  So after multiple attempts, and after waiting for several hours, you MIGHT get a movie on your system that’s almost as good as DVD quality.  Not at all worth the hours and irritation.

Legitimate download services, in contrast, offer a legal, consistent, and faster method to download movies on your computer at a much lower price than purchasing them on DVD or Blueray.

Movie sites like Netflix, though it’s actually a streaming site, offer endless streaming movies for about $8 a month. You’ve no doubt heard about Netflix before but if you haven’t signed up with them yet, I highly encourage you visit their site – Visit Netflix.

Stop trying to get something for nothing, skip eating out a few times this week, and use that extra downloading movies from sites that promise real value.
